Nudient is a Swedish company founded by three friends from Jönköping who develop and offer mobile phone cases.

Since its inception in 2016, the company has grown significantly, and today Nudient is a strong and well-established brand in Europe, known for its design within phone cases and mobile accessories. To create both functional and stylish phone cases, they have enlisted the help of designer Jesper Ståhl, who has designed both the "Thin Case v3" and the latest concept, the "Bold Case."

Swedish designer Jesper Ståhl is known for his stripped-down Scandinavian design with a distinct personal expression. Jesper started his company, Jesper Design, 20 years ago and today has clients in several different industries - ranging from furniture and lighting to kitchen utensils and tools.

"My work is about designing the product, creating the forms and expressions in three dimensions. It always starts with a dialogue about possibilities that then turn into an idea that I shape and create models of," says Jesper Ståhl, continuing:

"I have 3D printers in my studio, and it's something I use often in my creative process. I've always worked a lot digitally, so it's natural to also use the latest technology, both in visualization and 3D printing. Usually, I work during the days to refine the expression and function. Then I let my 3D printers work overnight so that I can evaluate the results the next day and make any necessary corrections."

Prototal 3D-printed phone cases for advertising shoot

One of the companies he works closely with is Nudient. In the creative process, his eye for detail and focus on the user are evident, as well as his precision in work, which is naturally a success factor in designing phone cases.

Jesper Ståhl has had a collaboration with Prototal Industries for several years. He has primarily used our services when the product is to be presented to a third party where the final appearance, surface, and finish are particularly important. In the work of creating Nudient's Bold series, we helped to 3D print four cases in two different color sets to be used for an advertising shoot.

The designer Jesper Ståhl has designed the cases for Nudient's Bold Case concept.

"For the advertising shoot, we needed models with defined colors, as well as correct surface texture and finish. The production of the phone cases was not yet completed, and we wanted to use the time wisely, so we needed to find another solution, and that's when we turned to Prototal. The design models needed to maintain a high visual quality while also being functional," Jesper explains.

After receiving the assignment from Jesper, we 3D-printed the four phone cases using MJF technology, Multi Jet Fusion. MJF is the new type of SLS manufacturing and offers finer detail and resolution than equivalent methods manufactured with thermoplastics. The phone cases could still maintain their precision in details but also with the flexibility in material required to fit onto a phone. To ensure the phone cases had a really good finish, we also sanded and painted them. Right shape, right tolerances, right material, right color and texture, as well as final assembly of an existing aluminum part – and voilà, the phone cases were ready for an advertising shoot!
