Period Pack has established itself in the Swedish market. The ambition of the company?
Menstrual hygiene products in toilets should be as natural as paper and soap. Period. Prototal was tasked with assisting in the productization of Period Pack. Thanks to our tool philosophy, we were able to deliver quick results - from idea to reality in just four months.
Amanda Mattsson & Lova Svensson started Period Pack as a UF (Young Enterprise) company during their high school years. Today, Period Pack is Sweden's leading company when it comes to containers for menstrual hygiene products - and the continued expansion is in full swing. The idea for Period Pack arose from an everyday problem that needed a solution. It was during a hockey game that Amanda and Lova realized that it was very difficult to find tampons, leading to the question: Why aren't menstrual hygiene products available in toilets in the same way as toilet paper?
"This is something that affects half of the world's population. We thought it was so strange that more resources hadn't been allocated to this," says Amanda Mattsson, CEO of Period Pack.
Their vision has been clear from the start - they want to make menstrual hygiene products in toilets a natural part of life. The company was founded in 2019 and has since experienced significant growth. Today, Period Pack consists of six people based in Örebro. The company's products are installed in workplaces and schools all over Sweden.
The main focus is still on establishing themselves in the Swedish market, but parallel launches are also underway in other countries worldwide, such as Finland and Dubai.
Menstrual hygiene products should be accessible to everyone
During their upbringing, Amanda and Lova traveled extensively. It became clear to them that there is a large market and a great need for menstrual hygiene products in places like airports, hotels, restaurants, and other crowded places. Period Pack works to increase the availability of menstrual hygiene products in toilets at workplaces, schools, and public spaces. They achieve this by developing a container specifically designed for menstrual hygiene products. The company purchases these containers and offers free menstrual hygiene products to its female employees and visitors.
Most women have experienced needing menstrual hygiene products but forgetting them. That's why they believe menstrual hygiene products in toilets should be as natural as toilet paper and soap.
However, it hasn't been an easy journey, and at the start of Period Pack, few believed in the business idea.
"When we presented the idea to our UF company in front of the class, we were met with laughter. And that wasn't quite the reaction we had hoped for. It also feels like menstrual hygiene products were a very taboo subject just a few years ago, and something that wasn't discussed publicly. I think it has gotten better over the years," says Amanda.
However, Amanda and Lova clearly saw the potential, and today they have entered several major companies, including many male-dominated industries.
Collaboration with Prototal
When it was time for the production of Period Pack's product, Prototal, together with Mecdon AB and IUSAB, was tasked with assisting in the productization of the tampon dispenser. Thanks to our tool philosophy, where tool manufacturing is done in aluminum instead of toughened steel, Period Pack was able to receive its finished products quickly. From idea to reality and delivery in just four months.
By designing and manufacturing all tools ourselves, we have control over the entire process from order to delivery. Whether it's simple prototype tools or series tools. In-house manufacturing provides both speed and control that is fantastic. The tool design is adapted for a more automated injection molding process when it comes to low-volume tools. The tools are made of aluminum, which enables fast and efficient manufacturing and keeps investment costs as low as possible. Details can then be injection molded under production-like conditions in the tool. The tools have a lifespan of up to 100,000 shots, covering the lifespan of many details.
