Welcome to Prototal AS

Prototal AS is Scandinavia’s largest manufacturer of vacuum casted parts in PUR. With experience of this process from 1996, we deliver high-quality plastic parts together with deliveries from our additive processes in SLA and SLS technologies. Our customers range from small contractor businesses to major listed companies.

One solution partner with control over the entire delivery

Our newly renovated and specially adapted production premises in Levanger offer excellent capacity.
Despite the fact that we use typical prototype processes initially, the majority of our deliveries are used in end products for series production of one sort or another. Good customer understanding and a focus on quality, combined with many years’ experience, are our strength.

Prototypes quickly and efficiently

We can 3D print a model overnight and make moulds from silicon in just a few days when needed. In this way, we allow our customers access to a quick and cost-effective way of manufacturing cast plastic parts. Once we have the silicone tool, we can test using several materials or colours. There is probably no better basis for a decision than assembling and testing a physical model which is very precise and has been well finished.

Series production

For low or uncertain production volumes, vacuum casted parts are often a good alternative. Because the tool can be manufactured quickly and cost-effectively, it is easy to produce upgrades or changes. The tool is made from silicon, and this also allows us to manufacture parts that are not designed for injection moulding, as draft angles and varying wall thicknesses are less critical. We have many customers who choose vacuum casting technology for their series production.

Vacuum casting

The PUR process, with all its material variants, allows us to produce parts made from anything from soft and flexible castings to hard and impact-resistant types of glass-filled plastic. A vacuum casted product can be manufactured with various surfaces, adding embossing and colour pigment to achieve the desired finish. You can easily do in mould casts of other materials or make castings (2K) in order to obtain several material properties on one and the same plastic part.

Vacuum casting is advantageous where small series production of parts is required. It does not take long to produce the tools, and the parts are entirely free of pores, making them very strong.
The method requires very little post-processing.

Customer case – Metronor

Metronor is a customer for whom we have produced many plastic caps over the years. Their advanced measuring instruments are used in everything from industrial solutions to military and medical orthopaedic applications.
Our possibilities for rapid small series production with high precision and finish via vacuum casting in PUR give our customers the advantage of getting their products to market quickly at low cost.
